Imbalances of the occlusal, muscular, and skeletal systems can lead to malocclusion and cervical dysfunction. In this patient, a deprogramming splint, mini-implants, and a transpalatal arch are used to resolve a skeletal deviation and alleviate scoliosis without orthognathic surgery.

An Efficient Palatal Approach for Correction of Unilateral Skeletal Crossbite and Anterior Open Bite

This unilateral mini-implant-assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE), as described by Drs. Banankhah and Uribe, has an attached tongue crib for open-bite treatment. Palatal temporary anchorage devices are placed on the non-crossbite side to help achieve unilateral skeletal expansion.

The Invisalign First protocol, as described by Drs. Gorton and Bekmezian, makes it possible to simultaneously open space through dental arch expansion and achieve relative intrusion of the incisors. Aligners were changed twice a week during most of this treatment period.

Unexpected Tooth Movement Under Bonded Retainers

This case illustrates the potential for unwanted tooth movement in a patient who presented with a 3-3 lingual flexible spiral-wire retainer in place. A retrospective 3D superimposition reveals a tendency for canine movement under a previous stiff-wire retainer that was not noted clinically.
