Use of 3D Metrology Software to Analyze Aligner Treatment Outcomes after Lower-Incisor Extractions

Extraction of a single lower incisor and interproximal reduction can facilitate clear aligner treatment for the relief of severe crowding. Drs. Giulieri, Weir, and Freer use a 3D modeling program to assess the accuracy of such treatment, as compared with the predicted results.

Early Derotation of Palatally Impacted Canines

After open exposure of a palatally impacted canine, the tooth will erupt medially, but occasionally will also be malrotated. This Pearl reviews the use of buccal and lingual buttons and elastic chains to derotate the canine while moving it into the arch.

Numb Chin Syndrome

Numb chin syndrome is a mental-nerve neuropathy that can manifest spontaneously. This article describes how the syndrome was identified in a teenage orthodontic patient, whose expeditious diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia led to a successful treatment with chemotherapy.
