Introduction to LightForce Part 1: 3D-Printing the Next Generation of Fixed Appliances

ALEXANDER WALDMAN DMD, MMSc, MAZYAR MOSHIRI DMD, MS, CHRISTINA BONEBREAK-JACKSON DMD, MS

Additive manufacturing represents the most recent evolution of CAD/CAM technology in orthodontics. Drs. PEARLS

Selective Bracket Bonding for Correction of Mesial Rotations

SERGIO HERNAN VALVERDE MONTALVA DDS, MS

In this Pearl, a relatively well-aligned tooth is initially left unbracketed to allow placement of an open-coil nickel titanium spring that can rotate two adjacent crowded teeth in opposite directions. An example demonstrates quick resolution of a patient’s anterior crowding.

The Potential for Regeneration of Mandibular Lingual Cortical Bone after En Masse Molar Distalization

HO-JIN KIM DDS, MSD, PhD, HYO-SANG PARK DDS, MSD, PhD

The posterior lingual cortex of the mandible has been considered the anatomical limit for orthodontic distalization. Drs. Kim and Park show a case in which CBCT images indicate long-term alveolar bone recovery after cortical dehiscence caused by substantial distal movement.

Skeletal Anchorage for Strategic Treatment of Hyperdivergent Class III Malocclusion in Adult Patients

NIKI ARVEDA DDS, FRANCESCA CREMONINI DDS, MARIO PALONE DDS, NICOLA DERTON DDS, LUCA LOMBARDO DDS

Retromolar miniscrews are used to anchor en masse mandibular distalization in hyperdivergent Class III treatment. The lower third molars are extracted to provide space for the miniscrews and the distal movement, while various measures are taken to prevent anterior torque loss.
