DIGITAL ORTHO LAB

In-Office Fabrication of Palatal Expanders Using 3D-Printed Resin Blocks

KYUNGMIN CLARA LEE DDS, MSD, PhD, TAEK RIM YOON MD, PhD, SEONGWON CHOI PhD

This edition of the Digital Ortho Lab presents a novel approach that combines the virtual design of a rapid maxillary expander with a hybrid manufacturing process, using a conventional Hyrax screw along with in-office-printed toothborne attachments made from a durable composite resin.

CASE REPORT

Forced Extrusion of an Endodontically Treated Lower Incisor Prior to Extraction

TAHA NASRALLAH BDS, MOrth RCS, AMR RAGAB EL-BEIALY BDS, MSc, PhD, MOrth, OMAR AHMED SALAMA BDS, MOrth RCS, YEHYA A. MOSTAFA BDS, MSc, PhD, FDS RCS

In this case, a periodontally comprised lower central incisor is orthodontically extruded before its extraction, preserving alveolar bone for a lingually blocked-out incisor to replace it. Prior endodontic treatment allows progressive incisal grinding of the extruded incisor to avoid occlusal trauma.

A Modified C-Implant for Simpler and More Efficient Treatment

SEONG-HUN KIM DMD, MSD, PhD, JIN-YOUNG CHOI DDS, MSD, PhD, KYU-RHIM CHUNG DMD, MSD, PhD, GERALD NELSON DDS

The original C-implant was designed to enable partial osseointegration for stability against rotational moments and heavy forces. This second generation overcomes some drawbacks of the first version while taking advantage of the best characteristics of conventional miniscrews. A typical case is presented.

A Mini-Implant-Supported Canine Cantilever Spring

ANUNAY GUPTA BDS, REKHA SHARMA BDS, MDS, NAMEKSH RAJ BHUPALI BDS, MDS

Early extrusion of a palatally impacted upper canine is enabled by a skeletally anchored cantilever arm. Two bracket-head miniscrews are inserted with their slots aligned for proper torque expression. The canine can be erupted within six months, independent of the adjacent teeth.
