Photobiomodulation therapy has been shown not only to accelerate orthodontic treatment, but potentially to mitigate associated pain. A sham-controlled, randomized clinical trial by Dr. Al-Okla and colleagues evaluates the effectiveness of an OrthoPulse device in daily home use.

As observed by Dr. Moura and colleagues in this case, the possibility of dentoalveolar expansion with fixed appliances should be considered when correcting a transverse deficiency, because it may also narrow the buccal corridors without surgical or orthopedic intervention.

Simple and Secure Ligation Technique for Anterior Intrusion Using a Miniscrew

In this Pearl, an elastomeric chain is engaged from a palatal miniscrew head to two gingivally oriented loops on the main archwire. The resulting upper incisor intrusion can rapidly close a midline diastema without the need for frequent reactivation.
