Effective Torque Correction for Buccally Erupted Ectopic Canines

Extrusion of Ankylosed Maxillary First Molars Using a Boneborne Vertical Distractor

A vertical periodontal ligament distractor is described by Dr. Schmid-Herrmann and colleagues for use in patients with ankylosed upper first permanent molars. The appliance consists of two Beneplates welded together, an open expansion screw, and a cantilever arm to erupt the ankylosed tooth after luxation.

In this Pearl, Dr. Jarosz connects a saliva ejector to a cheek-and-tongue retractor to provide buccal and lingual isolation for bonding lower second molars. Bite turbos on the adjacent first molars prevent debonding of the molar tubes.

Orthodontic Uprighting of a Horizontally Impacted Mandibular Second Molar with a Cantilever Spring

To upright an impacted second molar, a cantilever spring is bent from stainless steel wire and inserted beneath the gingiva, along the distal surface of the adjacent first molar. The activation arms are then connected to lingual and buccal brackets on the first molar.
