Mixed-Dentition Treatment with Clear Aligners and Vibratory Technology

Invisalign therapy allows simultaneous alignment and expansion to be performed in Phase I treatment, as demonstrated by Drs. Gorton, Bekmezian, and Mah in three cases. The AcceleDent device was used daily by these preteen patients to shorten treatment.

An adult patient presents with a severe anterior open bite of skeletal origin. Avoiding orthognathic surgery, the treatment plan involves upper posterior intrusion and upper anterior retraction, with zygomatic miniplates inserted in the upper quadrants for skeletal anchorage.

A Tissue- and Boneborne Rapid Palatal Expander

Drs. Lupini, Retrouvey, Decesari, and Cozzani present a new Haas-inspired miniscrew-assisted maxillary expander for application in non-growing patients. Unlike toothborne devices, it provides an orthopedic component of force, using metal pads instead of acrylic to increase rigidity and avoid inflammation.

A Removable Acrylic Inclined Plane for Anterior Crossbite Correction

This removable appliance is an alternative to a composite bite turbo for nudging an upper permanent incisor out of crossbite during the early mixed dentition. If a lower incisor also needs to be moved, a finger spring can be embedded in the acrylic.
