Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets with Elastomeric Ligature Guards

In an in vitro study, the authors find a nearly threefold increase in shear bond strength using elastomeric ligatures with occlusal guards, showing the potential of these ligature guards to reduce bond failures in patients with minor occlusal interferences.

Intruding a Single Overerupted Tooth with a Modified Clear Removable Tray

As an alternative to more complicated approaches for intrusion of a single tooth, a clear tray is modified with scissor cuts, allowing the patient to hook a small elastic on the lingual side of the tray, stretch it across the occlusal surface, and hook it on the buccal side.

In this adult patient with an anterior open bite and multiple missing teeth, strategic autotransplantation of a lower second premolar is combined with orthodontic space closure and protraction of third molars, thus avoiding the need for subsequent prosthetic restorations.
