Dr. Pedetta’s book introduces the New Straight Wire technique, the most recent evolution of diagnosis, treatment planning, and orthodontic therapy with preadjusted appliances. Twelve chapters describe how to treat various skeletal and dental malocclusions easily and efficiently, providing orthodontists with an accessible methodology for performing a simplified lateral cephalometric analysis and then selecting the proper biomechanics to treat even the most challenging cases.

In the author’s technique, the dental arches are carefully evaluated, and their effect on the patient’s face is analyzed. A useful table facilitates systematic calculations for planning orthodontic tooth movements to satisfy the esthetic and functional goals for each patient, while ruling out treatment plans that might result in good occlusion at the expense of facial harmony. The method also helps determine when orthognathic surgery is needed. In this way, the clinician can verify the quality of treatment before it is implemented.

The text is reinforced with high-quality diagrams and clinical photos illustrating specific tooth movements and biomechanical principles. The concepts are clearly explained and easy to understand, making this book an excellent choice for dental students and orthodontic residents as well as educators. I recommend it to long-time practitioners and young orthodontists alike.
