Tongue-Friendly Transpalatal Arches

Conventional transpalatal arches often create deep grooves in patients' tongues (Fig. A). A minor modification, requiring only a few minĀ­utes of lab time, can eliminate such discomfort in cases where expansion is not required, as when intruding maxillary incisors. Simply fill in the central loop with acrylic, which can be cusĀ­tomized according to the patient's interests (Fig. B).
