The 1993 JCO Orthodontic Practice Study

The 1993 JCO Orthodontic Practice Study

The responses to the 1993 JCO Orthodontic Practice Study on economics and practice administration have been tabulated, and the first in a series of articles detailing the most important results appears in this issue of JCO.

Since this is the seventh study of the subject, we have a history of what has been happening in orthodontics in the United States dating back to 1981. Thus, we can not only report the current frequencies and analyses, but also track trends in orthodontics.

These Practice Studies would not be possible without the efforts of more than a thousand orthodontists who have taken the time and trouble to complete the questionnaire for each of the seven Studies so far.

Keeping our promise to the specialty, from each Study we publish in JCO the most interesting frequencies and breakdowns, offer comparisons to past data, and try to interpret what the results of the Study mean.

In addition to the articles in JCO, we publish the complete data in book form. Although a substantial number of these books are sold every two years, the Practice Studies are not profit-making, but rather represent a contribution from JCO to the specialty. We believe the results will be interesting for all orthodontists, and especially important for those who study the results and use the information as a guide to practice success.
