There are times when the fitting of a band is impeded by an unusual contact caused by tipping of an adjacent tooth (Figs. 1 and 2). The band is prevented from seating completely by the marginal ridge of the adjacent tooth (Fig. 3).
A solution to the problem is to slip a short length of band material between the teeth, bypassing the interference (Fig. 4). It is then possible to slide the band onto the tooth past the interference (Fig. 5). At this point, the length of band material is removed in a labial and incisal direction, and the seating of the band is completed (Fig. 6). After the attachments are added to the band, the same procedure is repeated for cementation.
