Glass ionomer cement (GIC) splints are commonly used for unlocking the occlusion and eliminating interferences during the initial phase of treatment. Removal of the splints is cumbersome and time-consuming, however, requiring the use of a diamond bur in a high-speed handpiece. Here is a technique we have developed to make GIC splint removal much easier.
